Used Cars Sherman Tx – Sherman Fire-Rescue welcomed the new heavy rescue unit into the ranks of emergency response vehicles on Tuesday. The $ 600,000 vehicle, which is built on a Spartan chassis, features a 450-horsepower Cummins engine and stands about 11 feet and 37 feet long. Division Chief Thomas Brown said the new vehicle will be manned by three firefighters every day and replace a combination of smaller trucks and trailers, which the department has used since 2007 to deploy equipment to save calls.
“That’s the biggest reason we do it,” Brown said. “This doesn’t really change the way we respond or our abilities, at this point. Now, we only have everything in one vehicle for a faster response and bring important materials and tools to the location in a safer way.”

Brown said the vehicle was built by SVI Trucks in Fort Collins, Colorado, and brought to Houston, where it was further customized by the Metro Fire Equipment Specialist. The head of the division said the vehicle would be operational later this month and would respond to various emergency situations from its headquarters at the departmental station outside South Travis Street.
“We have some logistical thinking to do as far as how we will respond or use this vehicle,” Brown said. “But that will lead to large vehicle accidents and special rescue situations – high-angle rescue, ditch rescue, saving limited space, water events and so on.”
One of the most unique truck features, said Brown, is an installed air compressor that will give vehicles and crews additional flexibility in responding to fire-related calls.
“He also has the ability to go to structural fire, house fire or industrial fire because he can refill our SCBA (independent breathing apparatus) tubes at the scene,” Brown said.
Firefighters had the opportunity to tour and inspect vehicles immediately after arriving in the city on Tuesday afternoon. Brown said while almost all the tools on the vehicle were the same as those used by Sherman firefighters, the crew would undergo additional training to better understand the ins and outs of the new rig.
“They will study new electronic systems in trucks and then learn how to operate SCBA filters on them,” Brown said. “So that’s the main training about that, besides refreshing the tools we already have.”
Brown said he did not expect to get the biggest gas mileage from new rescue vehicles, but that would be a valuable addition to the department and make statements about agency commitments for public safety.
“Know that firefighters are looking for the future,” Brown said. “We are prepared not for what we have to do every day, but what we can do. We only do everything we can to prioritize the safety of our citizens, our visitors and our community and to be ready for whatever is facing our path. “
